EXCURSIONS

Wonder Grottole was realised from a walk, when in 2013 Casa Netural
organised the first “Netural Walk”. This is where Silvio and Andrea first
met.

We like to think of Grottole and its surroundings as a rural area made up
of countryside, to be travelled slowly, on foot or by bike, reaching
panoramic points and new perspectives along the valleys of the Basento
and Bradano rivers, which surround the high ground where the village is
located at 483 metres above sea level.

Here are some destinations that can be easily explored during the day in
just a few hours.

Sant’Antonio Sanctuary: ancient place of pilgrimage. This can be
reached on foot by crossing fields and hills for 15km; especially in
particular the final stretch which is very scenic. The road takes you out of the village on the cemetery side and just follow the signs.

Bosco Coste: wooded area that stretches along the slopes overlooking
the Bradano valley, 4 km from Grottole. It is reachable by car or on foot
from the town centre and also the road from the cemetery. Once there,
we suggest the 5km loop trail. There is also a picnic area and a
restaurant where you can enjoy some local cuisine.

Oasi San Giuliano Nature Reserve is part of the territory of Grottole and
is part of this protected area. Here you will find the beautiful lake of the same name that is now home to many species of water birds and
animals. It is also the place where the remains of a fossil whale were
found. Only 15 km from Grottole and easily reachable by car.
