Unplug from the City, Work from a Village: Grottole Opens its Doors to Digital Nomads and Remote Workers

Starting Friday, September 18th, the Center Guerrieri will open as an experimental shared workspace for remote workers, digital nomads, and locals - every mondays and fridays from 9 am to 6 pm.

Working, studying, and building connections is no longer bound by geography. In recent years, the evolution of remote work has shown us that you can build your career from anywhere while choosing a higher quality of life, richer human relationships, and inspiring surroundings.

For a historic hilltop village in Southern Italy like Grottole (Basilicata), this shift represents an extraordinary opportunity: our spaces can become temporary or permanent homes for digital nomads, slow-travelers, and remote workers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities.

A New Remote Work Hub in the Heart of Rural Basilicata

Born from a public-private partnership between the Municipality of Grottole and Wonder Grottole, we are officially launching a new co-working initiative at the “Gerardo Guerrieri” Center for Creativity.

Starting Friday, September 18th, the Center will open as an experimental shared workspace for remote workers, digital nomads, and locals.

Whether you need to manage a busy workday, focus on a creative project, or simply find a quiet, inspiring place with fast internet, the Gerardo Guerrieri Center is ready for you.

The space will be freely accessible during this pilot phase every Monday and Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Rooted in Global Coworking & Social Innovation Expertise

This initiative is not an accident—it is built on over a decade of experience in social innovation and collaborative spaces.

Andrea Paoletti, President of Wonder Grottole, is globally recognized as an expert in the coworking movement:

  • In 2009, he co-designed and launched Impact Hub Milan.
  • In 2012, he co-founded Casa Netural in Matera with Mariella Stella.

Over the years, Wonder Grottole has placed this small Italian village on the global map through groundbreaking community projects, including the world-famous Italian Sabbatical (in partnership with Airbnb), the eco-tourism project Wonder Bee&Bee, the international architecture competition for the Chiesa Diruta, and the recently launched Wonder Paesini initiative.

Today, after years of cultivating collaborative ecosystems around the world, the time is right to anchor this vision in Grottole, opening public spaces to create unexpected opportunities and meaningful human connections.

Work, Stay, and Experience the Village Life

Grottole isn't just a place to plug in your laptop—it’s a place to unplug your mind and recharge.

If you are coming from outside the region or abroad, we invite you to make a full weekend (or longer!) out of your trip:

  • Stay with Us: You can stay right in the village at our Wonder Casa or in one of the local cozy B&Bs scattered through the historic center.

  • Immerse in Village Culture: Experience authentic rural Southern Italy—enjoy local cuisine, walk through centuries-old streets, and slow down your daily rhythm.

  • Join Local Experiences: Take part in community activities and hands-on workshops organized by Wonder Grottole—from bee-keeping and olive harvesting to traditional cooking sessions and cultural tours.

Join Us in Grottole!

Why spend another day working from a cramped city apartment when you can work from a vibrant Italian village surrounded by nature, culture, and community?

Our recommendation: Come work with us in Grottole on Monday and Friday, stay over the weekend, and experience an authentic slice of rural Basilicata.

We look forward to welcoming you starting Friday, September 18th!

Special thanks to the Municipal Administration of Grottole for granting the spaces and supporting this experimental project.
